Two Duncanville High School band
members are proof that practice
makes perfect –
sophomore Jazmin Yuen and senior John Justus were
recently named to the Texas All-State Band. A
prestigious position
achieved only through hours
of preparation and competition success, it's
a
legacy that Justus will leave as he graduates in
May and Yuen hopes
to continue during her last
two years of high school. "John and Jazmin
are
very hard-working students, just like many of the
top students in
our band program," said
Duncanville ISD Director of Bands Jeff King. "I
would say they are very goal-driven, and due to
the fact that they are
in a very competitive
clarinet section, they tend to push each other to
reach higher and higher levels."

The Duncanville Police
Department has noticed an
alarming trend—the increase of
air conditioner thefts.
The high demand for copper
coupled with the troubled
economy and an
increase in
home foreclosures has created
an atmosphere conducive to
such crimes. Air conditioner
units contain copper and
aluminum, which
make them an
attractive target for thieves.
“Complete units are
being stolen and being
reinstalled at other locations
as ‘used air
conditioning
units’. Or, thieves are
removing interior parts and
leaving
behind the metal
casing,” explained Officer
Doug Sisk, Crime Prevention
Specialist/Community Relations
Officer.
Thieves can
strike occupied or vacant
homes and structures, day or
night.

Hollywood Park was the scene
of a Home Owner’s Association
meeting late
last week
pulling in three council
members, originally four, but
one
had been asked to go
home so there would not be a
quorum. Attending as
well
was the city’s police chief
Robert Brown, the Criminal
Investigative Division Lt.,
Charles Smith and a number of
law
enforcement officers
from other cities like Dallas
and DeSoto.
