Several students from Reed
Middle School 7th grade
English
Pre-AP/Academics
interviewed business along
Main Street in Duncanville
and asked their opinions about
the Main Street Project. Here
are a few
of their
letters:
Dear Suburban
Newspaper,
The
Main
street project was a necessary
undertaking in order to better
stimulate the economy in
Duncanville. We recently
interviewed a business
after
the Main Street construction
had ceased. The business we
interviewed was a stock
exchange known as Edward Jones

Dear Suburban,
When is
taking your children’s money a
“good” thing?
Or, put
another way, when is taking
money from your children
ethical or
morally right?
Does the morality depend on
your intent and ability to
pay it back? Are the ethics
dependent on where you spend
the money ?

Dear Agnes, I am an elderly
member in the community. I
feel strange
writing and
asking you this question, but
I figured as a fellow senior
you would give me a straight
and honest answer on what your
opinion is. I
have the
cutest little dog that my kids
adopted for me at the shelter
after my husband’s passing
last year. He's a great little
companion and
he loves to go
with me everywhere. So it is
fair to say, I take good
care of him. This past
Christmas I was surprised when
the kids bought
him
presents. He got a couple of
sweaters, some treats, and a
few toys.
Do you think it is
strange to give presents to a
dog for the Holidays?
With
all the economy in a funk and
people without jobs, I suppose
I felt
guilty that my kids
could have used that money for
something good.
~Your
friendly fellow senior.

Dear Agnes, Well this New Year
is starting like all the
others. I have
made my
resolutions and the main one
was to lose weight in 2012,
and I
did well for the 1st 2
weeks and now it seems that I
am back into my old
habits.
Do you have any idea on how to
stay true to my
resolutions?

Detective Pollock,
Hoping
you're closing in on the
people who burglarized our
home.
Just curious? At a
City Council meeting I
attended recently, the Chief
of Police quoted very detailed
statistics about crime in
Duncanville. Murder was down.
Rape was up. Burglary was up.
Red Light revenue was up, etc.
Very impressive and precise
numbers for crimes committed.
I now wished I had asked the
question...."What are the
numbers for apprehending these
criminals?"
Considering
the 3% pay raise all city
employees are getting, maybe
we can look forward to the
number of arrests going up.
Sure would like my Laptop
computer returned.
