City of Lancaster was notified by the Texas Forest Service that Tyger Williamson, a 5th grade student at Pleasant Run Elementary, received the top honor as the State of Texas winner of the Annual Arbor Day Poster Contest.     Each year the City of Lancaster along with the Texas Forest Service provides elementary schools with a curriculum that educates students about trees and the benefits they provide the community. This year’s themed poster contest “Trees are Terrific from Acorn to Oak!” engaged 171 students from Lancaster ISD. Tyger Williamson received honors for having the best poster in Lancaster and was later recognized as the Texas Forest Service’s overall statewide contest winner.
Along with the top honors, Mr. Williamson will receive a $500 savings bond; a year-long family pass for Texas State Parks, as well as a framed copy of his poster and an invitation to the Official Texas Arbor Day ceremony. Tyger Williamson’s teacher, Ms. Perdue, will receive a personal iPad2 and $250 to go toward classroom supplies. Pleasant Run Elementary will receive $250 for environmental books and supplies and a tree planted on the campus in honor of this significant accomplishment. We congratulate Tyger Williamson, Ms. Perdue and the Lancaster Independent School District on a job well done in demonstrating that partnership works!
