Robert H. Weaver and Betty (Mickelson) Weaver exchanged wedding vows in Seattle, Washington on April 13, 1946. There was a family get-together held Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the family home celebrating 65 years of married life.
Robert was transferred to Dallas by Sunshine Biscuits in 1954. After High School in Washington State, 3 years of Army (with a purple heart), 3 years at University of Washington, 10 years at Sunshine Biscuits and 28 years at Dixico Inc., including 5 years of night school at SMU and a Degree in Mathematics in 1962, and two years completing a 5-year correspondent school program for an Advanced Accounting Certificate from the International Accounting Society in 1964, Robert retired from Dixico, Inc. on December 31, 1985 as Vice President of “Pricing and Costing Methods”.
Betty and Robert moved to Duncanville in 1964 from Oak Cliff when the five children ranged from 15 to 3 years old. Patricia, Michael, Rick, Theresa, and Chris all graduated from Duncanville High School. Robert has been very active working with the Parks Department, coaching tumbling classes, and Duncanville Boys Baseball Little League. He also worked with Duncanville Swim Team (DUST) as Treasurer. Betty’s special activities (when not employed) were raising the five children while Robert played!
Five children and spouses (present ages (49 through 62), 11 grandchildren (present ages 15 to 40) and three great-grandchildren (ages 1, 4 and 6) were well represented at the get-together! “Duncanville was a small town when we moved here-less than 10,000 populations. The town has grown in 47 years, but our memories are still of a small town, good schools, with lots of neighbors in the same position we were-raising a family.
